Suppose you are in the office and having a conversation over the phone. Your colleague from the next cubicle to yours asks you a question and you gesture you ‘no’. Isn’t it a communication? Of course, it is a method of communication which we name ‘nonverbal communication’. Every day in our life can we calculate how many times communicate with others? I bet we cannot tally as the number seems to be uncountable.
Experts say there are mainly two kinds of business communication methods.
A. Verbal Communication and
B. Nonverbal Communication
A. Verbal Communication
Verbal communication is the communication which we do orally. I guess this type of communication is more preferable to human being as they engage themselves mostly in this type of communication. How many of the verbal communication method can you remember? Here I am helping you out reminding the most of them.
1. Face To Face Communication
Face to face communication is the most common and the most effective way to communicate with others. Even in the modern era of technologies and internet, we are more prone to communicate being at the sight of the other party and in person. Face to face conversation brings the parties of a communication at ease. The parties involved can concentrate what is being told. The speaker also gets the incentive to keep a more agile and alive speech when s/he can sense that a feedback can be readily available. Face to face conversation or communication increases the chances of the getting the response as soon as possible. A recent experiment shows that the employees are more motivated when they get their recognition in person from top managers.
2. Meeting
It is another method which has been used over the years. Still, we can see the managers arrange to sit together to reach a decision on a burning question. The main reason for its effectiveness is that it can gather the big fishes at a single table. Executives get the opportunity to express their thoughts freely in front of others which clarifies the ambiguity regarding any question or problem.
3. Telecommunications
Teleconference is the most widely used communication processes for easy usage. People can reach others sitting by the desk over telephones and cell phones. The usage of these communication devices has been increased mainly due to the lower cost, effort and time required. But the main problem with these things is to get people over the phone. One research showed that only 25% of the phone calls successful on the first attempt.
4. Radio Frequency
This device is restricted by government of most countries. The intelligence and defense department have the access to use radio frequency. Upon special authorization, many private organizations can use these communication devices.
5. Video Conference
Without being in office one can do the presentation with the help of internet through video conference. Executive with tight schedule is now more prolific with the help of these communication processes. It has brought swiftness. The flexibility has been augmented. Even crucial meetings are attended by video chatting now-a-days. All you need is a fast internet connection.
Different types of websites like Skype, Gmail and yahoo messenger gives the service to be in the video chatting. There are several software and apps are also available in the market to run the conference without buffering.
6. Seminars
Seminars may be open to question or closed one. Open to question seminars allow the flow of verbal feedback. Most of the seminars are kept for the campaign of different goods or for public issues. They are good ways of sending off the message to the attendants.
B. Nonverbal Communication
There was a time when we talked the nonverbal communication, we thought only about the written communication. But with the pace of the time, the age-old thinking has worn off along with the definition of nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication includes written communication and gestures or symbols as well. The written form has also been modified hugely. Once letter was considered as the main way of formal communication, but now email has taken the place.
7. Letter
Though it is regarded as the oldest form of written communication, it is in use. Especially after hacking frenzy in different countries, the safety measures have been taken more seriously than any other time before. The main hurdle faced by the parties concerning the relative mode is the time to transmit the messages. But, the rapid services provided by the companies like FedEx and DHL, the letter transformation gets a new ray of hope.
8. Email
For formal messages, email is most widely used. Many of the organizations now have its own mailing sites in which its employees can have their own mailing IDs. Transactions of money are also completed through emails now.
Email has made the communication system hell lots of faster and easier. The main features of email now come up with different services like chatting and file sharing. You can be allowed to store your information up-to a certain limit. Obviously, it gives the user an extra benefit. Even you can enhance your user ability by purchasing some other feature presented by the hosts.
9. Social Media
The users of different social websites like Facebook, Twitter and Google plus are on a boom. Which once was only for mere entertainment, is now a good source of reaching different people from different classes. You can communicate them just clicking and typing. You can reach people in a great numbers. That’s why each and every company has Facebook pages. Finding them on twitter would not be so tough enough. These sites have become a good billboard for posting advertisement.
10. Gestures
Why only then talk about conventional thought about communication? Your snares can be a way of communication. Your sneer means that you are a bit bored. Even when you yawn that has a meaning of boredom or tiredness. You can also encourage people or wish persons luck with a thumb up. Your movement of the head from one corner to another means ‘no’, isn’t it? All these are a way communication. We use it subconsciously. These gestures cannot be counted as there are thousands of them. But truly, they can be a good measure to get an approximate nature of information
